Default 99 on SB question

1500 players started. 170 left. 30 get paid (freeroll) Blinds are 150/300.
How would you play 99 here? 2 hands ago, UTG limper went all in uncalled and took the blinds. Now he limps into a pot. All other limpers have limped plenty of times. Am i wrong to think UTG has a big hand? I decided to play 99 for set value instead of pushing. Is it the right play?

I think pushing is an overbet so you'd make it around T1500 instead. But if the early limper came over the top you'd have to fold and that's a pretty good chunk of chips. I like playing for set value here. Particularly when it's a freeroll and people tend to play a bit looser (the only reason to raise pre-flop is to win pre-flop and that probably won't happen).

I reraise here and put the original raiser to all his chips. He raised 1/4 of his stack UTG, so I'm thinking AQ-A10, JJ-88. Doubtful he has AA,KK, or AK as he would more than likely push from that position with those holdings. Original raiser is getting ~2.2 to call assuming a) SB pushes with his 1800 left which he would probably do with any 2, and b) BB folds. If he calls, he's probably on QQ or JJ. This gives the big stack ~3.2 to call, which is a good possibility he will based upon his chip stack since he called the 2500 raise. What minkim does will determine really where you are in the hand. If they push, it's probably AA, KK, AK or maybe QQ, then you have a tough decision. You can realistically fold here after the raise and still have 18BB left.

Assuming you have someone other than the AI's here, I push any A, K, fold to any other bet. Hopefully, if this is the FT, whoever else is in with you will check it down to help knock out 2 others.

I'm not big on pushing AK PF unless you are in a absolute necessary position to have to do so, although that seems to be the minority belief here.

How many left? How many get paid? I would choose between calling in position or pushing (since a reraise is going to be a big chunk of your stack), and my decision hinges on the pay structure. Since most freerolls are VERY top heavy, I lean towards pushing because you have a decent opportunity to get a huge stack here.

30 get paid. there were 72 left at the start of the hand. i did end up pushing. i had made this move 3 or 4 times before this with AK or KK so i figured i still might get them to fold around the table.
