Re: Why are poker players (and in particular these forums) so hostile?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] That was abundantly clear from the MH discussion. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH [/ QUOTE ] You might want to reread the entire thread Tilts. Linky for you. [/ QUOTE ] Gee... is it possible the converter was broken. Anyway, let me get this straight. Everyone thinks "Tilts" is a troll, because he disagrees with other posters and has the temerity to aggressively debate his position (whether it be right or wrong)? Whether or not he is the former "Matador" is irrelevant. It seems people have gone out of their way to actively antagonise him as well. Disagreeing with an excellent poster is not trolling. Defending your position, even if wrong is not trolling. Following aqnother poster around simply to flame him is trolling. [/ QUOTE ] |

Gee... is it possible the converter was broken. [/ QUOTE ] Please read all of the threads regarding that hand. Tilts has said enough to be certain that this wasnt the case. [ QUOTE ] Anyway, let me get this straight. Everyone thinks "Tilts" is a troll, because he disagrees with other posters and has the temerity to aggressively debate his position (whether it be right or wrong)? [/ QUOTE ] No, we think he is a troll because of his condescending tone towards others. [ QUOTE ] Following another poster around simply to flame him is trolling. [/ QUOTE ] Im not certain if this was directed towards me, but, if it was: I havent "followed him around". IIRC I have only posted in two of his threads (this one, and another one that started off about poker). |

You've pretty much summed up how I feel about the strategy forums. So aggressive, even when all one is doing is trying to disagree without being disagreeable. Can someone please fill me in on this "Matador" thing? I honestly have no idea what it refers to. Am I posting stuff someone else has posted or being confused with another poster? It is a "Tilt" joke? Kinda weird, I've seen it posted 3 times now. ~ Tilts |

Re: Why are poker players (and in particular these forums) so hostile?
[ QUOTE ]
I haven't been posting that long, but I lurked for quite a while before I decided to get an account. The overwhelming sense I get from these boards is hostility. Strategy posts are riddled with people calling each other names, assuming that anyone who has a different analysis is a moron fish, and it seems impossible for 90% of the posters on here to disagree without being disagreeable. There is virtually no respect for any poster save for a few of the big shots, and those people get so much respect it borders on fanaticism. People who are here to learn get insulted constantly, and every little mistake new posters make is not just immediately pounced upon, but brought up again and again. People actually look back through other poster's posts just to find things to ridicule them with here. This seems nuts to me. There is absolutely no sense of poker community, save for a few posters. Non-strategy related posts tend to be flame fests where everyone competes to be the cleverest, and I have rarely seen a message board where so many people seem to hate one another. The OOT forum is just embarrassing, politics is similar, and WPT is dreadful. I'm a normal guy, mid 20s, with a normal job and a normal life. I'm happy and well-adjusted, and don't feel the need to ridicule people on a message board incessantly. Am I that much of an anomaly? Because I often feel like the vast majority of the posters on here (and poker players in general) could use some time on the psychiatist's couch ... so very angry. ~ Tilts [/ QUOTE ] i hate you. please die. fim |

Re: Why are poker players (and in particular these forums) so hostile?
I was surprised by your post and by the number of people who agreed with it. I think that these forums are a community, and that many of the comments are sincere attempts to help each other.
In addition, I know that lots of 2+2ers have met, played together, even had a few friendly tournaments. And I can't count the number of 2+2ers who have attended our Wednesday Poker Discussion Group because I or another member invited them. In fact, PeterHarris attended today's session. We wouldn't invite people if we did not feel a sense of community. I don't even go to RGP because I find some of the comments there really nasty. Regards, Al |

I think I have been confused with another poster, and I have now seen a lot of that sort of post in my time on here. The psychology forum is the only one I find friendly at all, frankly. Perhaps because you mainly post here you don't see some of the vitriol on the other forums. ~ Tilts |
