Default I \"heart\" the suited connectors....

A poker buddy of mine has recently invested large amounts of his time in arguing the merits of the suited connectors, even going so far as to regularly proclaim, " I  the suited connectors".Comments about his level of education or parentage aside, he (I believe) genuinely considers, for example, 6 :club:7 :club: to be a stronger starting hand than (again, for example) A :spade: 10 :diamond: .....discuss

The strength of holdem starting hands is highly situational. If many players have come in, and tend to go too far with their hands, I would rather have the 76 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] If I were first in late, I would rather have the AT. Which hand will make you more money depends on what kind of game you're in.

there are many games and situations where I'd rather have 76s than ATo. ATo is crap. This is the 2nd time this week i have written that. Weird. sad.

Why debate? According to PokerTracker, I'm profitable with ATo, and not profitable with 76s. Anyone else?

(I guess an implicit assumption here is that I'm equally competent--or incompetent--at playing both hands.)

Another implicit assumption is that you've played even remotely enough hands to make comparisons like this meaningful.

You haven't.

in pot limit and no limit i would much rather have suited connectors than any number of "trouble" hands like KJo A10o etc. the point is that in many raised pots you can chase with overcards or say top pair, fall in love with your hand!? and lose a stack when you find youre outkickered.
with suited connectors you take a cheap or even not so cheap look at the flop (especially if it is a multiway pot) and if you dont like what you see you can throw them away (or take one shot at it then fold)
when I think about it i think ill measure these hands ev in live games.
im going to keep track of my results.

I have 50,000 hands in my PokerTracker database. Enough? Or not? (Genuinely curious, not being sarcastic.)

More important than total hands - how many times have you played 76s and how many times ATo.

50k hands is a lot, but how many times have you had ATo and how many have you had 76s? This is the real sample size.
