Default Red Sox 3.5 games back

So the Red Sox are 3.5 games back of the WhiteSox as far as homefield throughout the playoffs go, and with the Boston's MLB leading 48-22 home record this race could prove quite significant in the post season. Does anyone think the Red Sox have a chance to prevail over the lesser Sox with roughly 3 weeks left?

Yes, they have a lot of games at home, but unfortunately they also have to play like 25 more consecutive games. I'd say that makes it basically a push. I haven't looked at Chicago's schedule but the Sox don't have easy going the rest of the way.

It's an interesting dilemma for Francona. He needs to make sure his team is in good shape for the playoffs and everyone is rested. Assuming nothing catastrophic happens with the division race (I think we'll see the Yanks falter a bit in the home stretch, but that might be homer thinking) how hard does he push? Personally I think HF is invaluable and you have to go for it if it's within reach. This is also the time of year where the White Sox typically [censored] the bed like a Yugo.

It should be interesting.

Anyone else going to some upcoming games? I'm seeing them the 26th vs. the Blue Jays.

The Red Sox have 19 games left over the next 20 days. By comparison, the White Sox and Yankees both have 20 games left. The Angels and A's have 19. The Indians have 18.

The Red Sox certainly have a shot at catching Chicago. The White Sox simply haven't been that good since the All-Star break. Since then, they've been 30-26 (Before the break they were 57-29). The 7 games against Minnesota and the 6 games against Cleveland will be critical.

I agree with this statement. I would feel much better about the playoffs if the White Sox weren't stumbling. That said, they've got 20 games left, all against the AL Central, which they're 40-14 against this year so far. I don't think 14-6 or 15-5 during this stretch is out of the question. That would give them 100+ wins. 97 or 98 should be plenty.

The White Sox always stumble at the end. I dont think home feild is is as important as people make it to be in the sence that the Red Sox will have home field untill they play the White Sox, and since the White Sox always stumble at the end I dont think it will be much of a problem for the Red Sox. If given 50-50 odds I would pick the Red Soxs to gain home feild though.
