I never play at the Grand so I could not tell you how the crowds are. I will probably try to qualify through a satellite though. Any idea at what the starting cost will be for a satellite?

At the circuit in New Orleans, there were 850 entrants for the $300+30 event. So I am going to assume it's about the same for Tunica. They will probably have $65 and $125 satellites that pay out a $500 entry chip and $40 cash ($1000 entry chip and $60 cash for the $125). That's what they had at the last circuit.

edited - I thought the August event was at the Gold Strike and the January event was at the Grand but this is obviously incorrect. Weird.

The lines for the WPT event in January at the Gold Strike were VERY long.

The summer event WPO Binion-open hasn't been as big but now that it's the Grand bringing the 'WSOP-circuit' tag as a qualifier I expect it to be much bigger.

Also - some of the WSOP dealers will be travelling out there...so they will be bringing their actual dealing experience with them (many of them were pretty new at the WSOP....but got better with practice obviously).

But we really don't know how big this event will be overall. Less than a month after the WSOP main-event I expect some players who were just in Vegas a week or two ago might not be inclined to make it to Tunica.

Still, my prediction is that it will be pretty darned crowded with plenty of good ol' southern poker-players from Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Arkansas, Oklahoma, etc all converging in in Tunica to play.

Those who made it to the Harrah's New Orleans WSOP event a few months ago reported that it was VERY crowded.

I am possibly going to play in one of the $500 or $1k events.
Playing the $10k event for me is HIGHLY unlikely unless I luck-out and win some satellite when I'm down there (which I'm not really inclined to go out of my way to try to do).

I also anticipate that the single-table satellites and the cash-games will be quite juicy as usual.

It's about a 40-minute drive from my abode in Memphis so hotel-room availability really isn't a concern for me.

The good news for everyone coming in is that the tourney-room rate is $49 and that the Grand has about a zillion hotel rooms I think.
You will almost definitely be put up in one of the buildings on the other side of their complex and will have to take a shuttle over to the casino and poker-room....but that for $49/night that looks like a pretty good deal to me.

The Grand is the biggest casino in the south. I am assuming they have enough convention-center space to handle such an event. Their poker-room has a bunch of tables but they will certainly need more than that. Perhaps they will just use most of the 2nd floor (outside the poker-room) and get rid of those silly slot-machines.

I'll be interested to check it out.

It was VERY crowded on day 1 and 2 (200 and 300 event), I had to wait in line for 3 hours to register, but they fixed their system by giving people tickets to come back at a later time to register to avoid having a line of 800 people clog up the casino. They also allowed you to register up to 3 (I think it was 3) other people from one person (if you had all of their IDs). I hope they do this at Tunica too

There is a fairly large convention space right next to the poker room, but it's hidden. There is a double door right next to the ladies's room that leads to it. It is on the barge and therefore available for tourney play. Also, I have heard that they will be clearing out all of the video poker machines in the area outside the poker room for additional tables.

I only play my cash games at the Gold Strike. I never been to the Grand. I have seen them have some promotions like learn how to win at Hold Em poker. Maybe I should try over there, but there are plenty of fish at Gold Strike.

Anyway, I am guessing all this promotion stuff has to do with the up coming event. I will probably ante for a satellite but that is about it.

That is the most overrated comment Ive read this month. Tons of fish at the Gold Strike. Dude....have you been anywhere else but Tunica? They have what 13 tables maybe, and that is fairly new. 1/2 the poker room was slots about two years ago. Then ever time you go there you see the same people sitting on there leather asses waiting for some college kid to mess up in the 1-2 NL game. Want to play red chip stud, forget about, forget about anywhere in MS. As for the limit action what 3-6, WOW going to make a killing there. 1-2 NL,what, like yor going to beat Rowland, Anthony, Ray, and the other 15 guys that play everday togather. AS for the tourneys well lets just say the WPO was a disater................at best. Had to wait way, way, to long for a cash game. As for Aug. tourneys expect tunica to follow up N.O. for cattle herd style poker tournaments. (By the way tunica poker rooms of went up on there rake in the last year from 3 - to 4 dollars but the still the regualr dealers at the Gold Stike are nice and the comp system is good)

No, I have yet to travel outside of Tunica for live poker. I do know that the $3-6 Hold em game at Gold Strike is very soft. I see some amazing things there. I am going to get out and try some more casinos. I mainly stick to limit cash games but I have a friend who wants to play the no limit cash games. I will give him the heads up. I heard rumors of cheating or playing together but did not think they were substantiated.

By the way, I have played at Gold Strike for quite sometime and have yet to get any comps. What is your secret for getting them?
