They should have been petitioning last month to get a poker room, instead of a slot casino.

One step at a time. They have the lotto and are looking at slots. Within 10 years they hopefully might bring in some skill games.

I think that they should do better than West Virginia and Delaware(slots) and Maryland(thinking about slots) and do the FULL CASINO. But people come to Washington to see the Washington Monument and the Smithsonian, not to gamble.

I really was torn over the slots issue. I'm not crazy about slot machines, and the way they went around trying to get signatures was flawed beyond belief, but it would have brought us one step closer to avoiding the three hour trek up to AC to get a casino game of poker in.

BTW, speaking of poker in the area, if anyone has a friendly weekly hold em game (2/4 or 3/6 is my preference) then drop me a private note.

dcJohn, there's a web page that I believe advertises home poker games in Maryland, some of which might be close enough to you if you're in DC.

The old firehouses are gone, alas... Rumor has a constant 10/20 going in the Watergate, but I've never been able to confirm this.

I'd be a little surprised if there aren't any, and if in fact there aren't there definately should be. I think theres at least a fair amount of people with a lot money in the D.C. metro area and it would be possible to get some pretty decent stakes games. If the operators of the club could attract some of the "right" clientel they would be somewhat protected from interference and might not even have to bother paying off any local cops. I'd think any local organized crime type or even just an entrepreneurial bookie would be able to make this profitably work.
