Default A Tourney That Starts On The Bubble.

Walked into a local cardroom earlier today and found out they were just starting a NLHE tourney. Figured I'd give it a try. Only 10 entrants, so 1 table. 2500 starting chips, but get this, blinds start at 100/200! So you only get 12.5BB. To top it off, blinds double EVERY ORBIT. So when it gets down to say 5 handed, every 5 hands the blinds will double. It's like a turbo turbo. So anyways, as I'm contemplating my strategy, I'm dealt my first hand. KQs. UTG limps, 1 fold, MP1 limps, I push. What do you think?

technically, the bubble is when there are n+1 players where n players place itm

but that is one short-stacked tourney!

True, but you know what I mean. Basically right off the bat you're fighting for your tourney life.

Yea, I think I puch here to. You need to accumalte chips early to survive, so a call wouldn't be terrible. But, there is a very good chance that everyone fold, as no one wants to go out on the first hand of a tournament, so you will probably add 25% to your stack.

Yeah that's what happened. Everyone folded. I got bad beat later on otherwise I would have easily run over the field. Can't wait to go back tomorrow.

yeah but the dead money in there $700. My gut said they'd all fold for some reason.

I discovered some fun on Pacific.

5 player $11

Prizes: 25-15-10, 800 chips blinds up every 8 hands.

Not going to be an earner, but some people might find the practise good.

With a blind structure that aggressive, you can expect "bad beats" all over the place. Depends what you mean by a "bad beat". If you had 2 overcards vs 2 undercards, I really wouldn't consider that too terrible.

It wasn't a true bad beat, but I felt bad because the dumb ass decided to play sheriff and called. Basically what happened was on level 2 blinds 200/400, there were two limpers so 1400 in the pot. Two people had already been knocked out so it was 8 handed. I had JJ and pushed. Big stack decided to call off about 70% of his stack with QTs. He hit a queen and I was done. It's about a 70-30 so not a true bad beat like an overpair vs underpair, but if he doesn't hit, I've got 6500 in chips and pretty much would be able to push nearly every hand. BTW, to the guy that said KQs wasn't a good push, look at what happens if I fold. I'm still at 2500 chips, blinds eat up 300, down to 2200, with the new blinds at 200 400 basically down to 5.5BB. Which means I have to push sometime during that round or else have 600 chips eaten up giving me 1800 with blinds at 400/800.
