Default Flopped set on a same suit flop

Live 2/5 NL.

Villian in this hand is in MP, he is not bad, but not great either. Doesn't get too out of line but tends to overplay single pair hands.

Me ($470)
Villian has me covered

Folded to villian who raises to $15 in MP, MP+1 calls and I call with 22 on the button, both blinds fold.

flop ($52): J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
Villian bets $35, folds, I call
turn ($122): 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
Villian bets $70, I call
River ($362): 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
Check, Check

The reason I never raised anywhere was because I was pretty certain he didn't flop a flush and was just firing with top pair so I didnt want to slow him down. He mentioned something about me chasing and I figured he'd fire a fairly good bet on the river if the 4th [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] doesn't show.

Was taking the passive route ok this time or did I mangle this hand?

Put in a big raise on the flop. Its pretty unlikely he flopped the flush, but it is very likely that he has a lone heart. Charge him for it. Even if he does have the flush, you will fill up 1/3 times. Pop it up sir.

I don't have a problem calling the flop. Definitely raise the turn.

I agree with AJ's reasoning regarding the lone heart, but prefer to do it on a blank turn with only 1 card to come.

If the heart comes on the turn and villain leads, you can usually safely fold (depending on villain). If a blank comes, then raise.
