Article I wrote about propping

I have gotten a lot of compliments about it so I figure it may help. The real questions are....

1. Do you enjoy short handed games?
2. Can you beat short games?
3. Are you willing to play in poor game selection sites?
4. Are you willing to play for less established sites?
5. Are you willing to leave a good game because your prop mgr told you to?
6. Are you willing to set aside scheduled times every week? (most have schedules)
7. Are you willing to leave a large bankroll on one site?
8. Can you play 3 short games at once?
9. Do you have the bankroll to handle high variance 3-4 handed games?
10. Do you have the mentality to handle large losses in stride?

You better answer yes to 7+ of those or forget it.

I've propped for a whole bunch of rooms and I can tell you the best way to take the fun out of poker is to prop. it can be a VERY profitable job though if you can master short games.

I think it's generally considered a bad idea. You get your rake paid, that's all. Now, you could pick a game that's good enough to cover the rake, the same thing, or you can pick two e.g. full ring games where the other covers the rake, the same thing.

I currently prop at a number of sites. All the sites I prop at have no set schedule so if the game is bad enough I can kill the game. I love playing short angainst the weakies that hang out at these small sites, so it is ok. I generally find myself in pretty good games, so I would say give it a try. If you have specific questions feel free to IM me.
