Re: A question I think is important ??
[ QUOTE ]
Tell me what your reasoning would be for doing that? [/ QUOTE ] Well, I hate walking into a big hand on fifth like this. I always feel like such a sucker calling down after I bet, get popped, know i'm beat, and pay off like an ATM. I feel if I check here, I'm not giving a free card cause carlos will bet anyway. [ QUOTE ] And what would you do if Carlos bets. [/ QUOTE ] call. its fun. How's st. louis? |

Re: A question I think is important ??
No stud games to be found at the casino by my hotel. It was a rinky dink affair, with a holdem 2-4-8 game (blinds 1 and 2--with raise to 6 preflop.) Fleeced em for 205 in about 4 hours. It was very strange to be riffling chips again.
Now to your question. I don't check here because if he doesn't have a hand then I don't want to give him a free card. At the limits, Beer you can't play like a wuss. When this might be a good idea is if you are playing a player who might bluff his way to the river and fold if you bet fifth. I think a move like this is player dependent. i would not check against a player like Carlos on fifth street unless manuevering for a check-raise. |

Re: A question I think is important ??
checking and calling is horribly weak...I might very well check behind on 5th with AK in the hole, a busted 3 flush, a gut shot str8, or maybe a small pair.

Re: Part 2
Now, I thought of one other thing that Carlos may be capable of which is to reraise you with a pair with an ace or king kicker. Now he may just reraise you on fifth knowing that he is going to call 6th and have the option to potentially bet or check 6th if unimproved. This is another play that I would not put past a player of Carlos' calibre.
With that said, the trickiness of this makes it difficult to play someone like him. I still think I fold fifth. |

Re: $30/$60 Stud high: Headsup with Carlos
Where do they come up with these structures?
I'll respond before reading the responses or part two. I can only see a call. You have done an excellent job of representing Queens thus far, and Carlos seems unperturbed by this. You almost have to be behind, but the pot is too big to fold. What are you monkeys doing playing heads-up, anyway? |

Re: Part 2
I pay this off, but I really don't like it. The Ace does make it somewhat less likely that he started with Aces, but more likely that you're drawing stone dead as well. Once you get to the river, you have to call given the size of the pot.
I played Carlos heads-up several months ago, and he does tend to be over-aggressive, in my opinion. I wouldn't be all that surprised if you won this one. |

Re: Part 2
Yes, I thought it was possible he had deuces with a big kicker.

I'm not even going to dignify that with a reply.

RESULTS
Carlos had KK down, failed to improve, so my queens and nines won.
Glad we got some discussion out of that one, after the first few replies I just thought everyone was going to agree to call down. |
