Yeah. I'll take the 2004-2005 UNC men's basketball team against whoever just won the WNBA title. I would bet my house and car on the Heels.

Hell, I'll bet the house and car on whoever wins the Ivy League title.

a woman who wants a women's professional league (WNBA, whatever the women's soccer league is, etc.). Then she'll give you a whole line of BS about how women are just as good as men and can compete at the highest levels just like the men can.

[/ QUOTE ]

But is it really possible to reason with someone like this?

A woman? No.

Yep. There was a story going around (unverified but I've heard it in several places from people who went to UConn) that the intramural champs would regularly scrimmage with the women's hoop team at a time when UConn's women's hoops team was DOMINANT.

The IM guys took them to pwntown every time.

This reminds me of when I was I think a sophomore and they were getting a girls' hockey team going. This is of course not exactly the same as D-1 basketball, but the same kind of idea. I was slumming down in a D-league IM team just to play with a couple friends and we played the school's women's hockey team and they never got a shot on goal. This isn't even the school's club team or even a good IM team - this is the bottom bottom league for guys who have just learned how to play. I remember, about 30 seconds into the game, taking a slapshot from damn near center ice, scoring, and the whole women's team bitched at me for taking a slapshot. Apparently, that's not allowed in women's hockey.

I'll take any DI school over the WNBA all star team.

Have any of you all actually played basketball with WNBA players?

Cause I've played with some good D-1 women and they would beat most guys' brains in. People who think that a WNBA team would lose to an IM team are crazy.

And of course Van de Velde's idea is absurd. It's not the Men's British Open; it's just the British Open. It's not gender-restricted. Anybody who can qualify is welcome. The women's Open IS restricted. That's why he is an idiot.

Most guys off the street? Yeah. A DI college team would obliterate a WNBA team. I would bet on the Texas boys state high school champs against the WNBA champs. The UNC thing was a joke, the girls would hardly score on UNC.

Well, UNC would obviously win. They had four legitimate NBA players. Even I can see that.

As for the Texas comment, I would probably take the WNBA team. The exception would be if the HS team had a large excellent center, e.g. DeSagana Diop (when he was in HS), in which case I'd have to think about it.

I just always think people underestimate how good the women are.

Well, unfortuantely for these type of debates, the game will never occur, so it's just a big case of uh-uh and is-so.

But I do think you are vastly underestimating the difference in athleticism and talent of the average Texas basketball boys champs' and WNBA players. The WNBA players would get posterized repeatedly.
