Re: Commerce and Bike game selection -- question for SoCal players
Thanks, andyfox. I definitely don't want to miss Commerce, and my understanding is that the Bike is just a short cab ride away. I'll look into shuttles to the airport (I don't like to drive and will not be renting a car).
One other silly question that someone may be able to answer for me...do these poker rooms have a coat room or anything where I can store my bags? -McGee |

Bike does. Not sure about Commerce b/c I stayed there so didn't need to store anything.

Standard advice to Los Angeles poker visitors....rent a car. [/ QUOTE ] How about parking at the big casinos? Also, how are the games during the week? I'm sitting in my motel room in San Dimas right now itching for some poker. |

Re: Commerce and Bike game selection -- question for SoCal players
From my experience, the Commerce 9-18 game rates as one of the most profitable tables around the limits you're looking for. You can expect this game to run like a live 3-6 game. It's not atypical to see some no-fold-em-hold-em action. I'd say buy-in for 2 racks and expect to win 2 more by playing solid ABC poker.
The Bike's got a pretty good 10-20 game though I suspect it's a bit more rocky than the Commerce 9-18. I think the reason is because there's more props playing in this game but I'm not sure. Try both to see which one suits you best. Also, if you want to try out Hawaiian Gardens, their 8-16 game is yum yum. I don't play much limit but when I do, I like playing in this game just as much as I like playing in the 9-18 game. Sometimes I like it more because there seems to be a lot more gamblers donating chunks of chips due to the fact that the '4-8' chip structure makes the pots look bigger, which makes the chasers want to chase more. Good luck in whichever game you choose. |

If you do rent a car be aware that there is no ramp from North 5 Fwy onto South 710 [/ QUOTE ] Are you serious? I usually am heading the other way. This is good advice, do like me, just get off at the next exit and get on the freeway of your choice, driving thru town, oh and make sure your windows are down, ask one of the nice gentlemen walking down the sidewalk where the nearest casino is, just make sure you are wearing the same color as him, don't call him "homie" and dont forget(actually, nevermind, I was just kidding, the areas near the casinos are not usually the best of neighborhoods). |

Re: Commerce and Bike game selection -- question for SoCal players
Use valet at Bike or Hollywood Park. At Bike, there are lots of crap cars there and your car is likely to get dinged. Security is top notch though. Hollywood Park security in parking lot sucks and it is huge, dark, and has had its share of problems. Take valet there. Commerce parking lot is very safe with lots of security. I usually park very far away though on friday and saturday nights, the entire lot fills around 11pm or so.

Thanks, andyfox. - Do you know if either of those places have shuttles or anything like that to LAX? - -McGee [/ QUOTE ] Generally you can call the Concierge or Welcome Center at the various casinos and sometimes can arrange a ride, although it may not be convenient. Cab ride from LAX to Hollywood Park is about $15 bucks with tip - the others would be much higher. Rent a car if you can. ~ Rick |

Re: Commerce and Bike game selection -- question for SoCal players
[ QUOTE ]
Hollywood Park $6-12 is ok...nothing great, nothing horrible. Most of the players are loose weak. The $15-30 is usually a bit aggressive. That is true of most of the $15-30 games in Los Angeles. [/ QUOTE ] Compared to 20/40, 15/30 is far less loose and aggressive in LA. It's mostly because 15/30 is usually the bottom end of top section, so the players who barely have the bankroll to play top congregate in the 15/30. [ QUOTE ] If you do rent a car be aware that there is no ramp from North 5 Fwy onto South 710. [/ QUOTE ] And visa-versa (North 710 to South 5). The freeways meet at an angle. There is a back way using surface streets, you may want to use Mapquest or Mapblast (or Google Maps, in beta) and put in the address of the Bike and Commerce and check the route. Post the link here, I may be able to check out any mistakes. ~ Rick |
