Re: Holyfield banned from boxing in NY
[ QUOTE ]
Not knowing when to hang it up is bad in other sports but catastrophically bad in boxing. [/ QUOTE ] Although, I agree with the above statement, I hate the [censored] government always trying to protect us from ourselves. |

I hate the [censored] government always trying to protect us from ourselves. [/ QUOTE ] I agree with the above statement, but I can't stand to watch a great boxer continue to do damage to himself as Holyfield has. The man cannot defend himself in the ring anymore, period. If boxing promoters had any scruples at all (I know, I know, a hilarious idea) this wouldn't be an issue, as no one would dream of letting him fight just to make a quick buck. Besides, if Holyfield was hurt in the ring due to a pre-existing medical condition (no small risk, with the amount his head has been knocked around recently) it is possible the NY boxing commision could be held liable, and put in an actionable position. I had been hoping the commision would stop him for a while now, actually. It's pathetic to watch, and it hurts the sport, as it keeps the public watching an ancient has-been while young boxers in this sport, especially in this weight class, can't get any attention right now. |
