(OT) Party poker randomization (just observations, no whining)
I don't know if it is coincidence, or if it just sticks out in my mind because I play so much poker, or what have you, but it doesn't seem like party poker deals random cards.
I've noticed too many times multiple people having the same hand, or while multitabling, the same hand occuring across multiple tables. (ie similar hands shown or similiar community cards) I'm not saying party is rigged, I'm not saying online poker is unfair, or any of that crap. I'm just wondering has anyone noticed these things?

I assumed after 344 posts you had already discovered the topic of randomness in internet gambling. You could obtain a good comparison for your observations. Go to a casino and record a few hundred or few thousand hands. Group them into sets of eight and you will find plenty of similarities in starting hands, flops, etc. Further, I think it is easy to prove that online cards are more random than cards in a casino. I wouldn't doubt that searching the internet gambling and other forums would produce related threads.

I've read all the topics on internet gambling, randomness, RNG, complaints about online poker being rigged, etc etc. I just had a series of hands/games where there were so many similarities that I thought I would post my thoughts.

Being technologically challenged, I two-table at most, on Party. I have more than once held the same two pocket cards, dealt in the same order, on both tables at the same time. Could be a coincidence. Probably is. Looks funny just the same.

The human mind is remarkable in it's ability to create patterns out of anything. If we didn't have this ability, we wouldn't really be able to accomplish much. Our brains would behave essentially like low-powered computers that had no creativity and couldn't do anything we weren't told to do.
On the other hand, it causes us to create patterns in things that really aren't there. Because seeing similarities is a pattern, they tend to stick out in your mind. If you're playing 8-10 tables, you will almost always find something. However, consider all the tables you're playing and how almost all of the other combinations that could have happened, didn't happen. Suppose you're playing 8 tables and you notice that you have similar hole cards on two of the tables and similar hole cards. You've noticed two similarities. However, with 8-tables there are 28 different pairs of hole cards you could have compared. So you're shooting 2/28, which is hardly remarkable.
