Hand from Party Super for checkup...
I have T1300. Blinds are 50/100.
I was at t575 about 6 hands ago. Picked up ATo in CO. Pushed , got called and doubled. Two hands later I blind-steal. I now have pocket 7s in the BB. Table short-stack (T800) limps from MP (this smelled of a speculative hand, not a trap), SB completes (pot odds). If I make a standard raise and get called, there's not too many flops that I want to see. I push "knowing" that SB is going to fold and if limper calls, he can only cripple me, not eliminate me. Standard? |

Re: Hand from Party Super for checkup...
I'm not a tournament expert by any means, but I don't see any problems with this.
If it were a cash game and the short stack is at say 5BBs, I'd probably push with sevens to get him heads-up. |

I raise.
Assuming SB folds and limper calls. Flop comes rags you push. Flop bring a 7 your money. I think your running a race no matter what, and for only 2 blinds? Seems very low EV to me. |

[/ QUOTE ] That would have to be one heck of a ragged flop to still feel comfortable. Remember, SB is in there. He could have literally any two cards. There were 3BBs out there also (mine too) - 25% of my stack. |

Flop comes 10 - 6 - 3r
You don't feel comfortable pushing? Just wondering, not critiqueing. |

Re: Hand from Party Super for checkup...
I understand, but I think the flop comes far more often with at least one face or two overs. No?
I'd much rather put JT to a decision now as opposed to on the flop. |

Re: Hand from Party Super for checkup...
A face card is definitely going to come on the flop the majority of the time, and I see your point.
I am just not the type of player who likes to take a risk like this early in a tournament. I would actually push as the third option. I would raise first. Check and see a flop second Push third. |

Re: Hand from Party Super for checkup...
Probably should have made that part a little clearer also. This wasn't exactly early... we were half way thru the second hour and average was about T2200 IIRC. I had some catching up to do.
This kinda goes back the the Accumulator v. Conserver debate from the other day. In the past my options would have been: 1) Check and see the flop 2) Raise a distant 3) push Now that I lean more towards the Accum. side of things the thinking goes 1) I need chips, 2) this is as good a spot as any to get my chips in on the better half of a flip, and 3) I've got tons of FE here, and I probably won't even be called = 300 free chips. Still too aggressive? |
