Yes. If you were going to put your chips in even if you didn't hit, you should have just gone all-in pre-flop.

Preflop:

Nothng wrong with this play, you tried to blow the two limpers out and did get one of them to fold.

Flop:

Missed you, but I can't see it helping MP much either unless he called your raise with AT, 22, 88, or TT. You represented a big pair with your bet so a continuation bet is in order against one player. A bet of about 1/2 the pot seems about right.

The problem with a pot sized bet is that it would be 41% of your stack. Therefore, knowing that if I made the pot sized bet that I was pot commited, I would have had to push and try to push him out of the pot.

I didn't think the flop hit MP either and was trying to push him off of the pot.I was happy to see him turn over K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] but a bit confused why he would call all-in with two over cards.I'm not complaining of a bad beat, i finished second, just wondering if I'm too aggressive.

He called because he was pot committed at that point and and figuring you missed as well, he might as well go for it. Not exactly a great play on his part, I'd have to run the numbers to see who it favored given pot odds, but this sort of thing happens all the time. (Especially to me lately.)

This may be one of those odd situations where a smaller bet stands a better chance of driving him off rather than an all-in. Depends on the psychology of the situation, but sometimes the smaller bet makes them go "hmmmm", whereas the all-in induces a call reflex. Heck, even just a bet that would cover his chip stack rather than an all-in might get him to lay down. You might try it some time, just to see if it works.

Move in preflop. As you discovered, you're in a bad spot if you miss the flop out of position here. Just move in and take down the 300.
