It was a "positive" report. I liked the underling message - which is a simple one -

I would personally want a Casino running the online sites. I like a casino running an online gaming site. Think about the bonuses, better comps, etc! The USA Casino industry would triple and it would all be under regulations of the gaming commission.

Same rules and regulations. Wake up Uncle Sam, wake up – you are losing Millions A MONTH.

Or Option #2:

Ban it all. I move to Canada, Europe, Australia, somewhere I can play. (not in that order)

That's the kind of thing I'd expect to hear in a Daily Show satire piece. Awesome.

I thought it was a pretty good piece, it didn't explain why it was illegal very well however.

Saying that you should go to the .com site for real money was pretty funny, alot of people probably weren't aware of that before hand. I know my girlfriend was shocked to find it illegal since she sees all the ads on TV.

Myself I think that blocking credit cards is a good idea, I know that none of my CC's can be used for internet gambling. Having to go through banks makes it a bit better.

Having better age restrictions would be a nice by-product of legalisation in the USA.

Every single time this story was mentioned today, it was under the headline of something like "it's illegal... so why are so many people doing it?" They did almost nothing to try to describe why it is that the law is ambiguous on this subject. They also did not make it entirely clear that the law is ambiguous on this subject. They just said that it's illegal. They didn't even make it clear that it is illegal to begin with, despite the headline they used to advertise this story.

I think if they would have given this story half of the hour with one commercial break, they could have done a much better job with it. They could have focused more on the foreign regulatory bodies. They could have spent more time showing the different ways that the law can be interpreted.

The story, as it was aired, will leave their viewers at least uninformed, if not misinformed or confused.

There is nothing that will turn off a persons interest in something more than legalizing it. Alcohol, drugs, gambling, whatever it is.

Live gambling is significantly more popular today then it was when there were just back-room places in many states.


Many people who are playing on party-poker have no idea that it's quasi-illegal. They saw it advertised on TV...it seems legit...illegal?? are you sure??


I know people who occasionally bet sports online who had no idea it was quasi-illegal...or even that the companies they were placing their bets on weren't even American companies.
Lots of people just don't think about that stuff.


However...some people will be less likely to try it (or continue) if they learn that it is quasi-illegal.

Think Napster as an example.
The risk to those downloading the music was not very high. But lots of people got afraid and stopped doing it through them (obviously since then Napster has re-desgned themselves).

I remember when they made that comment about how internet gambling might be legalized when there's an "enlightened" president in office...I muttered something under my breath about having to wait until at least 2008, and my wife shot me the dirtiest look I've ever seen. Gotta remember to avoid political talk around the house.
