Im saying this somewhat in jest and somewhat seriously, why do you guys spend so much time discussing which play would be worse? They both suck, lets talk about something we can apply to our game. Given these options, its a dead heat.

I vote K7. I <3 stealing the button. and raising pf in position gives us lots of options on the flop, whereas raising OOP leaves us with A) bet and pray B) check and fold

When I first saw this I thought it was Q8s utg. Q8s utg+1 is standard for me.

This whole thread started because i told Kurosh that I had just raised Q8s UTG+1. He told me it was absolutely horrible. Trix said it was close. Then Kurosh said he raised T9s UTG and I told him I thought that Q8s > T9s and UTG+1 > UTG and scratched my head a bit.

How do I vote for "it depends"?

First, where is the limper seated? UTG v UTG+1 is a major difference with respect to both the limper's best possible hand and his worst possible hand.

Second, how does the limper play postflop? Is he going to show his Ax down as a matter of principle or does he need to hit the flop? BTW, if you don't know the answer to this last question then go directly to jail for raising K7o without a solid read to help you play postflop.

Third, both plays are counting on getting a lot of folds, but K7o is especially counting on nailing the button while Q8s cares most about BB. So some tables are going to favor one play over the other.

Of course the most -EV thing is probably me spending time thinking about this useless topic.

meh, i prefer T9s. not sure why. probably cuz shneids told me so. Id say i riase T9s UTG like 1/3-1/2 teh time, but i never raise Q8s utg. but I do raise Q8s in the CO, which i think is right next to UTG+1 unless im really durnk and stupid.
