Default For everyone looking for \"the best\"

I usually recomend not to get the latest and most expencive but something new enough but far cheaper. That way you wont get cought in a hype about a product and not pay overprices. Just now I watched "Penn & Teller: Bullshit" s03e13 witch is about "the best" and it expelains "the best" so good how everyone is looking for it all the time and will be screwed. Get it and watch it.

Some quotes:
"If you buy in to the best you will always be f**ked"
"The question of wheither there is a best, it depends on the best for what"
"In many cases there is no best"

I definatley agree with this.

If you buy something that is 3-12 months old you will get about 50-75% more for your dollar then if you buy straight off the bleeding edge. Usually you don't see much of a difference in performance at all, and save yourself a buttload of money, nobody needs the cutting edge of technology.

I think this is very important for people to understand... Bumparoo

Yeah, that is exactly what I mean. I don't recomend people to get old, obsolete budget stuff, but "new enough to fill your current needs and some time forward" type of things. And yes, I been one of those "I got the have the best" type of guys myself and realized how stupid it was.

There's usually what I call the 'sweet spot'

Looking at computer prices, there are often incremental performance increases for incremental price increases. Buy anywhere in the middle to top of this range and you're usually fine. Then all of a sudden, you get the "best," which offers an incremental performance increase for a huge price increase. This is almost never worth it unless you have specific reason for shellin' out the extra bucks.

[/ QUOTE ]In response to your sarcasm in that other thread. I reccommended he buy a 6600GT if he also wanted to play newer games like Quake 4 on his new rig. I think that fits perfectly into your quote here.
