Default Having issues playing some .AVI files

Snagged the new WSOP Circuit torrent and it seems to be XVID encoded, but won't play. can anybody help me? The initial video pops up, but won't run...I can use the status bar to skip to other portions of the clip but it will only pause, and won't play the video.

I think I have the newest XVID codec...anybody with any suggestions? Other .AVI files I've downloaded are doing this occasionally too, so it's not just this RIP, I believe.

.avi is not a "format" it self, like xvid, so just beacuse one .avi works doesn't mean others will. Try downloading the latest ffdshow.

I myself use GSpot to figure out which audio/video codecs are needed when I can't play a file properly.

There are some others listed here
