Default Seating question in tournaments

Lets say you decide to play a tournament. You play the fee and get assigned table 2 seat 4. You go there and sit down. How do they check that the right person is in the right seat? I mean so two colluders wont just sit down at two empty unasigned seats?

We give players a receipt and have the dealers check them at the table.

at various tourneys I have attended, they have little cards or whatever they use, that has the listed seat # and table #, when you pay, they write you on the list and give you the assigned seats. Also convienient for a quick glance to see how many seats you have left.
