Default NHL Shootout question

So everyone has to shoot before anyone goes twice right?
What if a player is injured, or has been tossed from the game?
Does one team get to go back to its best shooters before the other?
That doesn't seem fair.

Thats a really obscure situation the may never happen, and furthermore may never effect the outcome of a game.

Maybe so, but what if it does. There has to be a rule in place jsut in case of the occurence. Just becaue something is not likely to happen doesn't mean you don't have to be ready for it.

Don't know the rule but the Rangers-Capitals went 15 rounds Saturday night ending with Marek Malik scoring one of the sweetest goals you'll ever(search for the highlight it's worth it).

The Rangers were in the situation you mention, cause Tom Poti left the game in the 2nd with a groin injury. No idea what happens in the 18th round maybe it's Poti's turn to shoot, and if he can't it counts as a miss.

The rulebook lists eligible skaters as those who have not been accessed a 10 minute misconduct penalty or been tossed from the game. It mentions replacing a goalie if he gets injured, but nothing about a skater. It also states that if a player does not take a shot, it counts as no goal. So, my guess is based on a strict reading of the rulebook, an injured player has his shot ruled as a no goal, and the other team gets an extra shot.
