Wang missed whatever notification was given that there wasn't going to be a dinner break. As a result, he was eating and his chips were getting blinded off.

I'd say maybe it was the Buddhist in him that made him be so emotional. He was hoping to get some compassion from his table, and they didn't give it to him.
