AKs in the middle stages
30+3 MTT on Pacific
Blinds 200/400 I have ~10,000. Somewhere around 5th. ~35 people left, top 30 get their buy-in back BB has me covered by a few hundred I'm dealt AKs UTG. I raise to 1200. Folded to BB who calls Flop is AJx. Two hearts, my cards are diamonds. BB checks, I bet 2000, he minraises. What's my action here? I called, for reasons unknown to me. I know that was the absolute worst thing I could do. I folded to his turn all in. |

Re: AKs in the middle stages
I'd push after he miniraises me. If he hit his two pair, you still have outs. If he has a flush draw, then make sure he is willing to put it all on the line. If he has an Ace, he may be testing to see if you were raising with KK or QQ.
In any case, unless I had a good read on BB, I'd again push. |

Re: AKs in the middle stages
I think I would probably push here. You have TPTK against the BB who called your raise. He might have an Ax and be check reraising you to find out if his kicker is no good. It is possible that you raised pre-flop with a better A hand...AK,AQ,AJ,AT...but it is also possible that his A is good being that you raised KK, JJ, TT, 99 or other holding. He may also be making this play with the flush draw.
If you are not willing to push here fold to the check raise and save your chips. Chances are your hand is not going to get much better on the turn. |
