Default HU hand with sorta deep stacks

4th or 5th heads up hand of a 5 man $20 SNG on Pacific. 50/100 blinds, we both have ~2000.

I limp with JcTd, BB checks

Flop is Jd 9d 4d. BB bets 300 into a 200 pot.

I pushed, but I didn't really have any idea what I should do.

Default Re: HU hand with sorta deep stacks

Since he overbet the pot, I would put him on two overcards, a small pair, or a 4, T, or a J. If he had an overpair, or he hit a set he would probably bet less or check/raise you.

By pushing, you are giving him 1.46 to 1 pot odds. More than likely, the only thing he will call you with is something that can beat you.

I would have bet the pot (about t500) and see what he does. If he does have a two overcards, a smaller pair or a T, or 4 he will probably fold. This way you did not risk your entire stack, but you got the same result.

If he calls, he probably has a J, a small pair or a flush draw. You still have lots of outs and may still be ahead in the hand anyway.

If he reraises you, then you might want to give it up and live to fight another day.
