Cameron makes $7 mil and change, Nady $500K. They're clearing not only salary, but a patch of grass in the Shea outfield for Manny.

is the difference that much? that makes more sense.

just as long as it's a salary dump of sorts.

This was clearly a salary dump. Aside from going after Manny, they can try and ink Giles or trade for Delgado.

Better question is, what are the Padres thinking? Lets see, lets trade a young guy with a bunch of upside and a very low salary for an old guy that is barely better than average with a very high salary. Is Isiah Thomas running the Padres now?

The Padres are thinking let's get rid of this nag Xavier Nady for a gold glove center fielder with power and speed to patrol the spacious Petco outfield.

This was a very good move by the Padres. It will improve thier defense, which will improve thier pitching, which is how they are going to win games.

I think the Mets are going to try and sign Billy Wagner as well which won't be cheap.

This move doesn't bother me. Cameron's main asset was his defense in the outfield, and at 33 that's not going to be an asset for much longer. Also, consider that he essentially took a sledgehammer hit to the face five months ago, and people don't, like, necessarily come back good as new from that.

I'd be very upset if they traded for Manny. He's 35, crazy, and making A-Rod money. No thanks.

If being born in 1972 makes you 35, then a lot of people are a lot older than they thought.
