How did I play this? I figured I'd 3bet the flop and see where I am. I get capped, and I have to call cause now I have odds. Turn missed me, so I fold.

Well, you found out where you were at but it didn't do you any good. That's normally the case. Then raising to find out where you were at is a bad reason to raise. Do so if it WILL let you lay it down later when you would HAVE to call if you DON'T raise.
