Passive QJs in BB
This is my first real session in about 5 months, so my reads are a little inaccurate and my game a tad rusty. 6/12 game at Canterbury Park. MP2 is kind of goofy, definitely too loose preflop. He's better postflop, but not much. Still too loose and reckless. CO is very close to a calling station, although more aggressive than a textbook one. Button doesn't have a clue. Very loose and very passive. SB has rockish tendencies.
I am the BB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Folded to MP2 who raises, CO coldcalls, Button coldcalls, SB calls, I call. Flop: Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] SB checks, I check, MP2 bets, CO folds, button calls, SB folds, I call. Turn: 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I check, MP2 bets, Button folds, I call. River: 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I check, MP2 checks. I felt that I played this way too passively especially considering my read on this particular opponent. Take it easy on me, guys, first session in 5 months here |

Re: Passive QJs in BB
Why not bet out on the flop hoping that MP2 raises? If he is reckless postflop as you say he might raise holding AK or JJ here which would be a big coup for you if he does.
If you do have the best hand I think betting out on the flop is the only way you can protect your hand. If he does raise I would just call down. If he doesn´t raise I would bet the Turn and River knowing that I am most likely ahead here since AA KK or AQ would definitely raise this flop. |

Re: Passive QJs in BB
Bet or Check Raise the flop. You should assume your hand is the best right now until given strong reason to believe otherwise.

Re: Passive QJs in BB
I would checkraise this flop. Betting is another reasonable idea. You want to put extra bets in while the pot is multiway and you are getting an overlay.
The main reason I like the checkraise is it puts two bets in most of the time whereas betting tends to only put two bets in when you are losing. But this is player-dependent and I don't have a good feel for what "goofy" means in this case. Betting the river representing the flush/straight is a good idea against most players. |
