Default forlorn question re folding hands - O8

I have to ask if anyone here would not fold the following hand: Q, 3, 7, 8 r - in early position at a table of raising maniacs?

I am merely asking to try and figure out why every hand I folded would have been the nuts (or so it seemed), whereas every hand I tried to make either was split or didn't fit the flop. I did fold that hand and the flop turned out to be:

Q, Q, 8

Why? Why? Why? .....it wasn't that good of a day for me.
I know, I'm whining.

Thanks,
Bodie

I know how you feel right about now, hang in there stick to the game plan, let the maniacs be maniacs. You be you and play tight, aggresive, good thinking poker.

Bodie - I think any hand without a pair will end up making a full house or quads about five per cent of the time, or about one time out of twenty.

I think any hand without a pair will flop a full house or quads less than one per cent of the time (148/17296).

When this particular starting hand makes a full house, unless it’s queens full (as happened here), an opponent is very likely to have a better one, and in any event, you’ll most likely be playing for only half the pot.

You’ll flop queens full or quads with this hand 31/17296, or about one time out of every 558 or so. Any other flop (but queens full or quads) doesn’t look nearly as good.

Bottom line: 278Qn is certainly not a very good starting hand. You have worse odds playing this hand than playing the slots. But every once in a while.......

Thank you Nick for your support, and Buzz as usual for your thoughtful reply.
Those figures help - I never would stay with that hand unless I was the BB unraised, however it's hard to understand why sometimes an entire session can consist of hands very similar to that one: where the ridiculous happens until you want to rip your hair out. Patience, patience.
Reading those odds that you so kindly put up is reassuring - you have nothing to regret if you've made the best choices.

obvious fold. with raising maniacs you need to play tight especially out of position.

Hi Japheaps,
Yes I agree it is an obvious fold - that's my point actually. You can be controlled and patient and do the right thing and still a day will come along like that one where the flops constantly matched obvious folds.
It was like torture.
