Default Poker fad has reached its peak

I don't necessarily agree, but it's a decent column.....

There is no stronger certifiable signal that a fad has reached its zenith than when a national media organization -- and there is no more prominent brand name in journalism than the Times -- tries to exploit it.

I read 2 million new players signed up last month at online poker sites. The peak may be a few years off.

It's reaching a plateau I think, however should online poker get fully legalized any time soon we'll see an even bigger boom.

Prima has a feature where you can enter a player profile. Ive been checking the profiles lately and almost all of them are from players 21-25. There are so many young players playing now in college and even high schools that i dont think we're anywhere near the peak.

Im not sure there will ever be a peak. I mean poker has only been on TV for a year or 2. I wouldnt be surprised to see an all poker channel on cable soon.

A lot my friends have gotten tired of it (which may be the case with a lot of your other friends) but I think that the loss of some players is being supplemented by the youth who are just learning how to play.

They already have one in England on Sky-TV.

I'm not sure if it hits the rest of Europe very much but Lorinda and others have reported about the all poker-channel over there. I believe it started up a couple months ago.

I enjoy seeing the not-very-old ads or even the current books that mention that 'the top online site, partypoker, has up to 26k players on during peak hours.'
The growth is so explsoive that they can't keep up with it (there are now up to 75k players on party during peak hours....but in the book Aces and Kings which isn't THAT old it only says 26k).

I feel pretty secure with my current income for the next 3-5 years. I should have a BA by that point, and decent job oppourtunities.

That depends, does your idea of a decent job include the phrase "would you like fries with that?"

(For the record, I have a BA and have turned down a couple of decent jobs because I'm a worthless layabout at heart)

But the BA jokes have to be made.
