Default $130 B&M...10\'s in CO

This hand hit about an hour into a $130 no re-buy NL tourney. Everyone started with T2000. Blinds are 100/200, I have ~T3900, UTG has ~1700.

UTG limps in for T200 (UTG has easily played 50% of his hands, usually limping, and makes stabs at the pot with trash when checked around to him). It's folds around to me with 10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]10 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in CO. I make it T600, blinds fold, he thinks for ~20 seconds and calls.

Flop came 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. He pushes all-in for ~T1100. Pot is now T2600 (100+200+600+600+1100).

Pot is offering 2.36:1. Based on UTG's play, what would you do here?

Fold, because UTG sucks and has A3o.

I call. To me, it doesn't make too much sense for him to bet into you if he has the ace, especially given his player profile. It sounds like he is not a great player, which tends towards unpredictibility, so I'm deffinately confused and worried. However, you've given the pot odds, I'd say that there is at about a 60% chance he has "nothing" (hand with 2-6 outs). Discount that by the times he he catches, you still have good pot odds. I could see a poor player with Ace-rag making this play, or maybe JJ. I really don't like this hand, but I do call.

Any other views or thoughts on this hand? I'll post results after hearing from a few more people.

Thanks for the responses!

I would fold here. Is he really taking a shot at the pot enough against a PF raiser with an A on the flop to think you're TT is good enough here to warrant a call?

CSC, you say his action doesn't look like an A. But I think alot of these bad players will see they have top pair and push/bet because, well, they have a hand. He's not really thinking outside of his own cards IMO.

I am glad too see a bit of a mix in reponses. I started to think it was an easy spot, and I was making it difficult.

Anyway, I thought on it for about a minute and called. He flips over A7 (nice read augie00) and takes down the hand.

I'm still not sure what I'd do next time with a guy like this in this spot, but I'm more inclined to fold.

Thanks,

Pulp

I don't like the preflop action with this hand...With only a few players behind you, I think you should be raising a larger amount...You need to make him commit to the hand preflop...I think a raise of t1000 is much better....

As it was, you can't call here....You let him in and now he's got you beat...

I'm glad you brought my pf play to question. I was going to ask this next. After going to bed last night I started to think that this was my biggest problem.

I have this total LAG that limps with a WIDE range of hands. I needed to make it difficult for him to call.

Granted, after his limp he only had T1500, so I thought raising to T600 would either force a re-raise or a fold. I did not think he would call. I had every intention of calling his all-in pf, if it came to that, but would've been content with taking it down right there.

So, was the raise of 3BB too small?

It's kind of standard to add 1 BB to the raise for each limper, so 800 or 1000 would be OK.

If you have a lot of calling stations limping, you could make the smaller raise to get them to put in money with weaker hands, but then you often have to fold if youmiss the flop.

i'd make it ~900 pre-flop, then i'd fold. you have to be right ~30%, and you'll hit your 2-outer 8%. from the sounds of the guy, i don't think there will be the required ~27% chance he has a worse hand (has to be over 22% b/c sometimes he will bluff and catch).
