Need an opinion
I have been playing poker online for about a year. I've played limit from .50/1.00 to 2/4, and every buy in Empire NL SNGs. I have been pretty successful for my own standards, but only at the SNGs. I am interested in switching to mainly limit and building my way up. I have read super system and the theory of poker. I was wondering a) are there any other books i should definitely read before doing this, and b) if I start at .50/1, what should my initial bankroll be? Thanks in advance.

Re: Need an opinion
Standard rule of thumb is 300BB. For .5/1 that's $150.
As for books, I would recommend Sklansky's Hold em Poker for Advanced Players. Schoonmaker's Psychology of Poker is a must in order to understand why people act the way they do. I also am a big fan of Mike Caro's work. Hope this is helpful, ~knight |

Re: Need an opinion
Question, what does the BB in 300BB refer too? I was under the impression it was "big bet", which in the case of .5/1 would be $300?

Re: Need an opinion
You are right, it is "big bet." A sufficient bankroll for a winning $0.50/$1.00 player would be $300.

Re: Need an opinion
a.) Small Stakes Hold Em by Ed Miller, Sklansky and Malmuth for sure.
b.) $300 should be sufficient for $0.50/$1.00 |

Re: Need an opinion
Bankroll requirements are for folks who must quit professional poker and get a job if they lose their bankroll. They don't apply to folks who can transfer another $20 and start again. Forget about your bankroll in these micro-limits; play in the game you are beating.

[ QUOTE ]
a) are there any other books i should definitely read before doing this [/ QUOTE ] If you've only read SS and ToP, I highly recommend Hold 'em Poker for Advanced Players by D. Sklansky and M. Malmuth, and Small Stakes Hold 'em: Winning Big With Expert Play by Noted Poker Authority Ed Miller, D. Sklansky and M. Malmuth. |
