Seeing another players hold cards
This situation came up while i was on vacation and playing 2-5 spread limit poker with my wife. we were sitting at a table, my wife was next to an old man who drunk and not guarding his hold cards at all, my wife hand to look away from her hand and shift in her seat so not to look at his hand, she told him once, but he did not protect his cards after that. My quesiton is, would it be impropper/cheating to look at his hold cards when you are just looking at yours and at the table? Mind you, it is in your field of vision, you don't have to strain to see the cards, they are right there. FYI she never looked at his cards

Re: Seeing another players hold cards
It is the player's responsibility to protect his hand.

Re: Seeing another players hold cards
I'm a dirtbag... I'll tell them once, and after that I don't try to look, but I'm certainly going to use the information if I happen to see it.

Re: Seeing another players hold cards
I give one warning as a courtesy. After that, I'm not going out of my way to look, but if I see it, I see it.

Re: Seeing another players hold cards
Give them a fair warning, with a description of the proper way to protect their hand.
If they're a nice old lady, tell them twice. After that, raise their sorry ass. al |

Re: Seeing another players hold cards
Looking at a drunk player's unprotected hole cards is more proper than not using the handy search function provided in these forums.

Re: Seeing another players hold cards
I was in the same situation but the drunk was showing me his cards while we were both in the hand!! Warned him once and the dealer took note and scolded him. Several hands later I hit a boat on the flop, dude shows me his hand again (KKs) and the dealer forces him to show his hand to the entire table!!! He now has 2 pair and the entire table folds to me and him and I lose a ton of action!!

Re: Seeing another players hold cards
thanks to all who replied, i feel better now about my answer to her, BTW, she lost a bunch of chips to him she had 3 kings and he catches 4 2's on the fourth street, calls her raise then reraise on river i guess that's what you get for being "nice" at the table.
