Default confusing comment

a professional player told me not long ago that starting out as a general rule i shoud avoid chasing draws. Today at a live table (very loose) the button raised two other players $250 on the turn. The two players folded. The player sitting to my left said he plays alot with the button player and said he does it everytime he's on a draw. And then he said, "hey you gotta get all you money in on a draw." who's right who's wrong? I tend to believe the pro he's been playing for 30 years and is very very good. but i don't know

the thing is with good players if you hit your draw theyre going to give you credit for your hand so if your going to make any money on the hand you need to get it in the pot before this often makes draws unprofitabe
in the end both players are right there is no one way to play a hand

It's critically important to distinguish between calling with a draw and betting with a draw. If you bet, you win if you're not called and you win if you hit. If you're the one calling, you can only win when you hit. Big difference

Ed Miller writes in Small Stakes Hold 'Em (page 131):

[ QUOTE ]
The distinction between a drawing hand and a made hand is arbitrary. Almost all "made" hands have some potential to improve. Likewise, many "drawing" hands have some value as made hands, even if their value is only king-high. A few hands, such as a pair and a flush or straight draw, have characteristics of both. Some players put far too much emphasis on the difference; for example, they may refuse to play any "drawing" hand aggressively because they are still "on the come." Anyone who advises you to play drawing hands and made hands differently, based soley on that distinction, should be ignored. Strategically the division is meaningless. What matters is how often your hand will win at the showdown.

I think that about sums it up.

The question is 'Do you have pot odds?'
