I think betting and folding to a checkraise is a lot better than checking.

I'm debating whether I think betting and folding to a checkraise is better than betting and calling a raise, though.

Either way, betting > checking.

would it be unreasonable to wait until the turn to raise here. Almost anyone is gonna have odds to call two cold on this flop, but might not have those odds on the turn if we can raise a safe turn card

You raise now (on the flop) because you have equity now (on the flop). There are very few situations where you want to raise on the turn instead of the flop. Most of the time, when you have an edge, you push it now (cf. Ed Miller).

Anyone with a queen is drawing to two outs. Anyone with an overcard is drawing dead. A flop raise is for value, and also to possibly knock out a backdoor draw that SB or BB might have. You have a chance to trap everyone for an extra bet on the flop and encourage them to put in more bets while they are drawing very slim.

There are no hands you can "protect" against on this board by waiting to raise the turn. Additionally, there is no guarantee it will be bet into you on the turn.
