Default What\'s the best way to win a seat at the WSOP?

I would seriously like to play in the 2006 WSOP but cannot play anywhere near the number of hands required to win a seat with any of the poker sites. I believe that most sites have tournaments where the winner wins a free trip. So my questions are:

Are these tournaments currently being offered and if not when do they usually start

And what site offers the best chance of winning a seat?

In all honesty I doubt I could actually win a seat and realize there is no way I could ever win the main event. But as an avid poker player I think playing in this event would be unbelievable.

Hey dude,

typically your chance of winning a seat depends on the quality of competition that you're up against. The way these satellites work, you have to beat a field that basically corresponds to the prize package/buyin ratio. In other words if you play a $1200 satellite you have about a 10% chance of winning (assuming 12k prize package); $120 satellite = 1% chance, $12 .01%, etc. This of course assumes you are equal skill with your opponents (and ignores the site vig)

the other thing to realize is that, assuming there's not a significant difference in opponent skill, there's really no EV difference between entering a $1200 satellite or a $1200 winner-take-all SNG, which you intent to use for entry..

Thanks. I understand all of that. But:

When do the satellites start
Which site has the most satellites
Which site has the easiest tourneys (I assume its Party)

I can't say for sure, but they should be starting soon.

Stars and party will have micro/low/high buyin events running around the clock once it starts. Even if you only have a 3 or 4 hour window a couple times a week you'll be able to play tons of events.

Yes...UB is running their satellites already.

Pokerstars had 1100 players qualify for the main-event via their site (1 out of every 5 players there....and I was one of those 1100).

Also - it's incorrect to think of it as a 'free seat' to the WSOP.
you are playing in a tourney where the pay-out structure is different and in the form of $12k WSOP packages ($10k for the seat...and then some spending money and hotel-room).

Very popular method is to play the $165 double-shootouts on Stars.
This is a double-SNG. If you win your first-round table of 9 players then you advance to the final-table with 9 more players.
It's 81 players competing for 1 seat. This is how I won my seat.

The $33 rebuy MTT's on Stars are also popular.

Some people prefer trying the WSOP 'STEPS' that they set up.
If you are into SNG's you can check out the STEPS type format by going to the website and seeing how it works for their Cruise Steps and Aussie Steps. It's pretty much the same for the WSOP steps when they start those up again.

Lots of people in the MTT forum play in a lot of these satellites on Party, Stars, elsewhere.
There are about a zillion different sites and ways to win your seat...and really no one way is that much better than another for the most part so it's kind of a difficult quetion to answer.

I expect that many more sites (including Stars and Party) will get their WSOP satellites starting up somewhere around Jan or Feb.

Pacific Poker is running satellites and the competition there is pretty weak.
