Default When NOT to add on?

There is a point, at which if you have sufficient chips at the end of the rebuy period, it is not profitable to addon.

how do you figure out what that point is?

Thanks

When you have so much chips, that your chipcount is the same as what will be the average chipcount for when you are in the money or at the final table.

Meaning never.

This is FAQ material btw, gets asked at leats once every two days. Can't somebody write a stellar post on it that are worthy of inclusion in the anthology?

I think Raymer did, with the math and all.

raymer did the math a while ago, the conclusion he came to ( ithink ) , is when you have (at the end of the rebuiy period) what will be the average stack oncec the tournament is in the money, then you can pass up on the addon.

Well he was kind of guessing when he said that, I'll go find the old thread. It's in the archves and I post in it I think if that helps narrow it down for anyone.

Seems that looking to see the chip count when in the money is meaningless.

If when u buy those extra chips but you're not going to be able to put them to use for a long while, then the purchase seems meaningless.

For example: At break: avg stack is 5k (assume 7.5k after addon), you have 22k. no one else at your table has over 7k. It will be a long, long while before those extra 2500 you buy will be able to be put in a pot.

Essentially someone has to double up TWICE, AND get in an all-in pot with you, or you're going to have to wait SEVERAL blind levels before those chips can enter a pot. seems meaningless to me to do the buy here, regardless where the avg stack will be at ITM-time.

I have not seen Raymer's post, so perhaps he explains this - but how can you determine what the average chip count will be ITM or at the FT during the add-on decision making time? Meaning, if they don't post the final number of add-ons and the number of spots paid until AFTER the add-on period is over, how can you determine what the average chip count ITM will be when you actually have to decide whether or not to add on? Or did Raymer suggest just approximating the average chip count?
