Default advice on line

No reads/stats as he just sat a few orbits ago.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

Hero ($20.15)
Button ($23.25)
SB ($35.70)
BB ($34.45)
UTG ($31.90)
MP ($73.45)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.10.
2 folds, Hero calls $0.25, Button raises to $0.5, 1 fold, BB calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25.

Flop: ($1.60) 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero checks, Button bets $0.75, BB folds, Hero raises to $2.5, Button calls $1.75.

Turn: ($6.60) 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets $4, Button calls $4.

River: ($14.60) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button checks.

Final Pot: $14.60

Was somewhat put off by the possible straight on the board, but would he raising pf with a 5 in his hand?

What do you think about the river check?

Is that too weak, should I have value-betted it?

How do the other streets look?

Thanks!!

a bet that you make in hopes that it won't be raised and so that you decide the price of the showdown. Usually 1/2-2/3 pot size. You make a blocking bet when you don't know if your hand is good, but want to show down. If a blocking bet is raised, you fold.

Bet about half the pot and fold to a raise (unless hes super aggro with crap on the river). It basically allows you to extract value from lesser hands and get away for cheapish when your beat.

i prefer c/c. if you are willing to bet 1/2 to 2/3 of pot then you should be willing to call that much. the problem with the blocking bet is that you dont show down if he reraises you with the 5. if you check / call then you can get to a showdown more cheaply.

definitely bet the flop. the check-raise is too strong and will generally only be called by a strong hand. you're letting AX get away too easily.

despite the PF min-raise, you don't really have any reason to expect that Button will bet the flop and even if he does bet, it may only be a small amount (like .75), when really you want a pot sized bet on the flop. bet the flop so that you're in control and can build a pot...you need to get all your money in with sets as much as possible.

EDIT: the way it played out, i think Button had an AXs two pair.
