Default Highest Rake

Hi,

There's a new Poker room in my desolate part of the world (the only one) at the Sky Tower Casino in Auckland NZ. They've only got four tables 2/4, 2 5/10, and a 10/25. The higher limits have normal rakes, but the 2/4 has a $1 ante from each player for each hand.

I am nuts in thinking this is WAY too high and no matter how bad your opponents are (and they are that bad) you're not going to be able to profit long term?

It certainly equates to the highest rake I've seen. My follow up question is are there higher rake structures out there than this one?

Cheers,

The Lemon

Ante implies its going into the pot. Is it going into the pot or being raked? If its being raked, thats crazy high. 10$ off every hand at 2/4 is 25% off a 10BB pot.

Yeah sounds like it is just the ante. I would stay away from that game as it is Shootout poker. You have to play a crap load more hands preflop and have odds to draw on a lot of flops.

You'd think that it would be a regular ante. But they actually call it an ante and it all goes to the house pre-flop. The table sign said $1 per hand at the 2/4 table, and I though that meant a $1 rake each hand, but no. It really is the house getting $10 each hand.

If enough people are dumb enough to play that game maybe you should open a casino.
