is the mx1000 still the best mouse to get?

Depends on what you want to use it for. Logitech just release two gaming mouses' the G5 and G7 which are VERY nice. Otherwise the MX 1000 is still a top of the line mouse. Don't know about he MX610, but IMO you can't go wrong with Logitech.

I have the 510 and love it. I'd assume the 610 is the upgrade and would recommend it if it is.
