Default Dealer puts young punk in his place

I'm at this 2/5 table tonight and there is this young guy at the table. He was so typical: maybe 22 or 23, long peach fuzz goatee that looked like a ball of cotton that was glued to his chin and stretched out about 6 inches, sunglasses, ball cap on backwards....the whole deal, except no hooded sweatshirt. He looked like a fool, but he was actually pretty tight. Not spewing chips by any means.

Anyway, the dealer pushed the pot at the end this particular hand. He then gestures to this young guy and says "your blind sir".

The young guy kind of freaks out and says, "yo, I just '2-blinded'" (whatever that means....lol)

Dealer replies "Really?" and then asks the player to the young guy's right if he was the button last hand (he was BTW).

Before the former button replied, the young guy leans forward and says in a completely asssholish tone "We can call the floor....deeeeealer" with this look on his face that made ME want to clock him.

Dealer says "Go ahead punk - I won't loose any sleep over it. I've been dealing here for 13 years - before you even got laid for the first time."

Young guy says something under his breath.

As he’s pitching the cards for the next hand, the dealer says "What's that? What was your comment? I want to laugh at you some more. You World Poker Tour, TV punks are ruining the game. My 8 year old knew how to play poker before you did."

The entire table erupts into laughter and the young guy slinks down into his chair and is silent for the next few hours until I left.

Side note: this dealer is one of the best I've seen ever and I was totally surprised at his lashing out at this guy. He's cool as hell and the whole table was familiar with him, besides the punk kid I guess. This puke sh!t kid deserved a spanking...hopefully he learned a lesson.

Oh yeah, the floor was never called.

I would certainly hope all the players at that table (or within earshot for that matter) were regulars and knew this guy as a very good dealer. This kind of outburst is entirely unacceptable from a dealer, IMO. Not to mention, thanks to the WPT, "young punks" like that are helping EVERYBODY make more money - casinos, dealers, and good players. The guy may be right, and the player may have been a total prick, but that dealer was out of line - at that time, the player DID have a reason to talk to the floor, and probably should have.

Note: I'm not sticking up for harassing a dealer, but one little comment about "we could call the floor", no matter how "assholish" he sounds, is far from grounds for a dealer to act this professionally. 13 years on the job and he decides to blow up on someone who pays the majority of what he lives on.

I totally agree that Rob (dealer) was probably out of line a bit and did overreact. Maybe he had a bad day or something. If you knew this dealer and saw the kids body language and heard his tone, you would have probably laughed at him as well. What a piece of sh!t.

Of course the kid could have asked for the floor, but there was really no need after the former button said that he was indeed the button last hand and Rob moved the button in front of the punk. The kid pressed it further by making some wise @ss comment and Rob kinda went off and made him look like the idiot that he really was. It was rather entertaining though.

I am a young player who plays at blackhawk in the 2/5 game on occation. Usually its just when I want to get out of the house, since I can make much more online playing 2/4. I sometimes wear glasses, a hat, and/or headphones (usually I like to wear a hooded sweatshirt too, but the hood is of course off). Im sure old guys and piss poor dealers (who dont play well enough to make a living that way) might think they know my motives for wearing these things, but usually theyre wrong. The glasses make the light from those damn flourescent lamps a bit easier to handle, and the headphones help me to be much more patient. As for the hat, maybe I didnt feel like combing my hair that day.

Ive had experiences with dealers in Blackhawk where theyve been absoloutly out of line. I refuse to tip those particular dealers to this day. I grant that my run-ins with them involved me opening my mouth when everything would have been okay if i had shut it, but the dealer thinks Im interfereing, and gets bent out of shape. In the run-ins Ive had, ive been quick to appologize, but the unfriendly and unprofessional treatment continued thereafter.

I think its a little indicative of your true feelings when you call someone a "young punk" simply because they wear shades. Youre obviously jealous that there are so many young players all over the country who can wipe the floor with typical oldtimers who have been casually playing for decades. These kids, read a few books and spend a few months playing online, then all of a sudden theyre checkraising and inducing bluffs from old guys who have been consistantly winning their gas money to the casino and back playing poker. Most dealers probably have the same inferiority complex. Or maybe, your just irritated with the ones who think they can play, but actually cant beat you. In that case, youre totally incorrect saying that theyre ruining the game, since obviously theyre helping it.

I turns out the kid was right, and that the button was on his immidiate right. Theres nothing wrong with calling the floor, if not for the button situation, over the dealers unprofessionalism. I would have called the floor anyway and asked the dealer to repeat what he said to me so the floor could hear it.

As for dealers in blackhawk, most dont behave this way. But there are some real assholes that I would never encounter in vegas. Players in higherstakes games dont put up with that sh!t from "the help."

Why should you feel sorry for me? All im saying is dealers should stick to good customer service and collect their dollar tip every time they push me a pot, and not throw a tantrum everytime someone corrects them. All I really care about is the bottom line.

In our little perfect world the dealer did the right thing by putting that punk in his place.

In the real world, that dealer should be fired. There is no excuse for being rude to customers. Do you think that kid will ever go back to that cardroom?
