The only plausible hands the Villian is paying him off with are a,rag (which paired) or 77.

And this is probably what he has, so bet.

(Also, don't be surprised to get called by AK on occasion.)

you played this very well until teh river.

I disagree, what value does he have in betting this river? We know the Villian is a 25/20 and aggressive but what true value is he getting from betting the riv? The only plausible hands the Villian is paying him off with are a,rag (which paired) or 77.

you must be joking. this river is an easy value bet. any 2x, 3x, 4x, 6x, Ax, or 77 is paying him off here.

Hero is paying 3x off --but I agree with the rest.

Thanks all for the replies...Villain did indeed turn over an unimproved AK, so I wouldn't have been surprised if he donated one more bet on the river. The Q was scary enough for me to wuss out, though.

P.S. I called it a "blind steal" hand just because that's the position I was in and how my opponent probably saw it...obviously first-in LP with 88 the raise is for value.

First time I've ever said "grunch."

It seems to me that if you're confident that you are ahead on the turn, you should value bet the river. Since the read is only over limited hands, though, it's tough to comment on the turn. I think I'd do the same thing, but I'd have to know better what the villain would 3 bet preflop with to feel really comfortable about it.
