I think you're in trouble here. He doesn't really have enough chips left to be able to fold, and he's definitely not folding a pocket pair. I think you need fold equity to pull off stop-and-goes.

Re: Stars $10+R AJs in BB vs an MP shortstack raise.
I think this is a terrible spot for a stop-n-go. MP3 has less than 8xbb. He is really in borderline push-n-fold mode, but he has time to wait for a good hand, especially with a smaller stack at the table.
I'm not familiar with the blind schedule for Poker Stars but it looks like very late in the tournament where patience is key for a next to last small stack. I expect he is pretty strong and is ahead in just about every situation here. Of course for a $10 RA these logical reads don't make as much sense so you could get lucky but it's still not a good play IMO. Reverse the stacks and it is a good place for a stop-n-go all-in. |

So should I have folded or pushed preflop?

Re: Stars $10+R AJs in BB vs an MP shortstack raise.
Against a short stack you really have no FE so I don't believe this to be an ideal spot for the stop n go. Against a medium stack like urself this bet should work enough for it to be +Ev. If your read on opponent and you really think he folds to a missed flop the fire away and u probably have some outs if he calls but generally with your stack size and his I fold this PF. I just don't think you have enough Implied odds to play AJs against his stack size.

Not a very a good idea to try the sng on a shorty. No FE.
