Default Value call with the nuts here?

Live $1/$2 blind NL with deep stacks (entire table over $200). If this needs to be in the small stakes forum, I apologize, but the hand is haunting me.

I have ~$230 on the button. Preflop raiser has $250 in MP and opens for $15 (standard raise at the table). Cut-off (villain) calls. I have 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and I call for a variety of reasons (preflop raiser is on tilt, for one).

Flop comes 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] . Preflop raiser leads out for $25, Villain smooth calls and I smooth call, getting an excellent price at this point.

Turn is my money card, 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] giving me the nuts. Preflop raiser bets $60, villain smooth calls again and I raise all-in for another $115 or so. As I expect, the preflop raiser calls all-in as well. Villain thinks for a moment and calls also.

Preflop raiser has A-4 (sucker straight) and villain has A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Naturally, a heart hits the river and I lose a very large pot.

My question is this. Knowing the preflop raiser would call my all-in, should I have simply smooth-called with the nuts on the turn, and possibly saved my stack if the river did make a 3-flush? At the time, I thought that it was at least a 75% chance that one of them was drawing at the flush. The villain certainly made the correct call at the end, since he was getting at least 5-1 to make his nut flush.

If I smooth call, rather than raising, I could get away from the hand on the river. How do you evaluate the Fundamental Theorem in this situation where both players make the proper play?

Thanks for the help.

Smooth-calling would have been terrible there, also for a variety of reasons, including suckouts, scare cards for you, and also scare cards for villain(s). Nice re-raise; crappy luck.

I guessing nut flush draw would not fold. You want to get his chips in there now. Cause your not going to get any on the river.

Yep, you're absolutely right and it's obvious to me now that I read it. I absolutely will not get more chips if he misses the draw. Basically, calling rather than pushing would definitely be -EV.

Duh! Thanks
