Default Traveling

This is kind of a continuation of similey's thread below.

I am plannning on spending the summer aboard traveling and playing poker. I havent ever been overseas and would like some advice on where to go. Right now my plan is to hit Europe first and then head to thailand or austrialia.

I know some other 2+2er have done this same thing and said it was a blast.

Could everyone who has been overseas post some comments on what they enjoyed or didnt. Places they would like to go or went. And any other advice that would be applicable. Thx guys

Kyle

I went to the English countryside (Bearstead, some 40 miles east of London, a bit outside of Maidstone) for the partypoker "world open" that I qualified for online.

About my favorite part of it was the train ride from the tube to the town. The countryside is very beautiful.

I can't say I'd recommend it for a trip because there's not a ton to do and there's no legal poker (when we played in the TV studio they couldn't officially let money change hands). I only spent a night in London, and only in the Gutshot for an evening, which was a good time, but I didn't get any real taste of the city.

The only really useful info I can provide- the UK is damn expensive. Given the current exchange rates, it's pretty brutal. Expect to pay roughly the same amount in pounds for a given product as you would pay in dollars in the US.

Hope others get the ball rolling better...

I hit up Thailand for a month in August, it was one of the best times of my life. Tons of stuff to do, and everything is so cheap.
As far as poker goes, they dont have casinos and internet connections are mostly dail-up. So you wont be playing any poker. Maybe make it the last couple weeks of your trip, and just take some time to relax on the islands in the south, becuase playing online poker in the islands is the last thing you would want to be doing. If you want more info on islands or cities to hit in Thailand PM me.

Hey Kyle-

I've been to a lot of countries(mostly for work), This is not a brag...I am offering my travel experiences as a resource to the OP and thos 2+2er's who want to know more about those places I've visited. Here is a list of where I've been. sorted by continents. Some of these are one city, others are multi-city visits. I have probably missed a couple in my haste.

Of those I've visited, here are my Fav's:

Italy
Ireland
Spain
Iceland
Morocco
Kenya
Thailand
Maldives
Brazil
Poland
Belgium
Bulgaria

If anyone would like more info on any of these places let me know (by PM) and I can get into specifics: Cost, places to stay, things to see and do, etc.

Happy travels!

I am typing this reply from an internet cafe in Nicaragua on the eve of my return home. This place is cheap and the surf was very nice but the internet connections are not great for poker. I doubt you have an interest in surfing so I am really just posting this because I liked the idea of making 1 post from Nicaragua.

Hi Kyle,

If you end up in Amsterdam during any part of your trip be sure to PM me. I own a bar in the center and have free WiFi for all my customers.

I'll also be able to tell you the do's and don'ts and what's going on in town. I might even be able to take you out depending on my schedule but otherwise I'm pretty sure someone else will, my regulars are not the hardest people to get to know.

There's also poker in the casino and there's a tournament going on somewhere nearly every day. I'll have no problem with hooking you up with some play. I'm always happy to talk poker of course!

Same goes for all the other 2+2ers, just PM and we'll see if we can hook up.
