Finally though of something obscure enough that I felt comfortable posting it.
Gym Class Heroes. From Geneva, NY (near Rochester), they do live hip-hop in the form of the Roots or Heiruspecs (mentioned earlier) http://www.gymclassheroes.com/index2.html Has some sample songs to DL. Although I'm pretty sure a few of the Rochesterites on here have heard of them.
