Finally though of something obscure enough that I felt comfortable posting it.

Gym Class Heroes.

From Geneva, NY (near Rochester), they do live hip-hop in the form of the Roots or Heiruspecs (mentioned earlier)

Has some sample songs to DL. Although I'm pretty sure a few of the Rochesterites on here have heard of them.

One that got radio play? no.

Realistically, maybe 1 person in 100 in the US knows who Hum is. Hum seems like a fine answer.
