Default Re: The Oaks Cardroom - Emeryville (Poor decision making)

I guess we'll see. I actually did bother to look up the court case, but I'm arrogant enough (as a lawyer) to think that it wouldn't really apply to my civil suit. Everything I read in the appeal concerned a specific card game, Sycuan 21, (a form of blackjack) or such "banking games" and did not address poker as it was defined by the Supreme Court(1987?) as a game of skill rather than luck. I have just recently received feedback from the Oaks management and have decided to postpone my flagwaving until I have heard what they have to say.

I'm going to lay off the law talk since I imagine it's boring to most folks. Suffice to say if you read that case close enough you'll see the general rule gives you no shot.
I'll also add that I think the Oaks is foul cesspool full of degenerates and angle shooters. I understand that poker players have poor hygiene, but I draw the line at smelling like you peed yourself. I'm not at all surprised that this type of incident happened there. Before I left Oakland I much preferred taking a few more minutes to go to Casino San Pablo---just as fishy and no urine smell.

If this is how you plan to distinguish authority, you will be a failure as an attorney. Please tell me you dont go to Boalt and that you are a Hastings student. Please.

Nope, Boalt. The "banking games," etc. is straight from the appeal. I'm not defining anything. I find it interesting you think one argument is enough to judge my potential success as a lawyer, or assume that I necessarily intend to pursue a career in law at all, and still have the audacity to criticize ME for assumptions.

I'm not sure I really need to respond. You seem childish and set on antagonism. However, while I wait for the Oaks to see if they can "reach a conclusion satisfactory to all parties" I have some time to play. No, I actually don't really support affirmative action. If you are interested, which apparently you are, I got over a 4.0 in high school, excelled in sports & extracurric's, was a state champion more than once, and have a pretty diverse educational background including schooling in NY and Japan.

Hehehe. All true. They're also the best-run legal cardroom in the city of Emeryville.

You're not kidding about the degenerates at the Oaks. But San Pablo isn't much better. In 3/6 you're paying 2 for the SB and 2 on the button so you're basically obligated to play 3 hands every round.
