How to treat rebuys in satellite tournaments
I often find myself spending 50-90$ in the 10$ turbo rebuy tournies for the sunday 350k tourney on pokerstars. I know this isnt right as having a decent stack does by no means guarantee a spot in the tourney.
Should I pass up marginal EV opportunities early? Be more reluctant to rebuy late when blinds go up to like 75/150? Any thoughts appreciated. |

Re: How to treat rebuys in satellite tournaments
My advice is, don't play the turbo rebuys. Play the $3 rebuys instead, you've got a better edge as a good MTT player.

Re: How to treat rebuys in satellite tournaments
I can't give you any advice, as I'm not sure of my own strategy. But my MO is I never rebuy but always add-on unless I'm above the average stack+2000 at the break. I try to minimize my investment and maximize the overlay.
Am I wrong to not do the auto-rebuy at the tourney beginning? |

The 3 rebuys take a reallllyy long time. The 10 turbos have pretty fishy play and dont last too long.

Re: How to treat rebuys in satellite tournaments
For the $3, my strategy is pretty simple:
-Push any Ace-face pre-flop (if first in). -Push almost any pair pre-flop (if first in). -Limp with AA and KK. -Call any push AQ or better. -Call any push 99 or better. My optimum is to play just a hair tighter than the lunatics. It is also good to figure out who the folks are who are willing to play any two down to the felt, and get into as many pots as possible with them. I can't speak to the $10, but in the $3 the early rebuy is a must. There are so many chips flying around that when you double up, you want it to be for as much as possible. Just do the math: -Double up twice with no re-buy, and you're at 6K. -Double up twice with the rebuy, and you're at 12K. Not to mention, if you can get one of the other big stacks all-in, you can come up huge. Gotta have chips to make chips. |
