Default blackjack question

In vegas blackjack are the players cards dealt face up or face down? If it varies from place to place whats the average for a double deck game?
Thanks

Well since we butt heads so much in another certain forum, lets have a good discussion here Do you still play on a regular basis? What sort of count do you use?

I don't play now as much as I used to since I played full time for a year or two. I guess I play bi-monthly now.
I use a modified HiLo, 2s and 7s as 1/2, 3-6 +1, Tens and Aces -1. In single and double deck I also keep a seperate ace side count. I use about 40 indices for playing deviations to basic strategy.

6 deck games are dealt from a shoe, and I have never seen it anything but dealt face up.

Single deck is dealt face down, only vary rarely would you see it dealt face up.

What kind of improvements does changing the tags of the 2's and 7's give you, over regular hi/lo?

40 indices? Wow...that's pretty stout.

I'll meekly say that I use KO with most of the illustrious 18. Side count of Aces for insurance in the SD game.

counting two and sevens as 1/2 is a slight slight improvement to BE, neutral to the IC, but gives about a 10% boost to PE.

Adds power to the 13 vs 2, 13 vs 3, and 12 vs 4 indexes, and adds a 14 vs 2 index which doesn't exist in HiLo.

The ace side count helps with Insurance, betting, and the doubling indexes 10 vs T, 10 vs 11, 9 vs 2, 9 vs 7, 8 vs 5, 8 vs 6.

said a bit more simply, it probably adds about .1% to his edge and reduces his risk of ruin 2-3%
