I thought it was a good play. What do you think?
Last week Casino AZ 6/12 kill game. Im on the button with KsQs. 4 limpers in front I raise, all limpers call. To make a long story short I flop a gutshot bet it and turn my straight (which is the nuts). On the river 4 players remain and there is check check and bet. The player that bet had exactly $12 left so the bet put him all in. I call thinking if I raise the other two will not call and the bettor cannot call cause he is all in. Both limpers call, 4 hands to the showdown. All in shows KcQh for nut straight I show nut straight and other two show two pair and TPTK. After the showdown the entire table starts giving me hell cause I didn't raise with the nuts on the button. I just laugh cause I believe it was the right play. oh by the way I know that the person to my left would not call the raise with 2 pair and was pretty sure the other would not call with anything less than the bottom end of the straight..........did I make the right play here?

Re: I thought it was a good play. What do you think?
Sometimes raising with the best hand is not the right play. You played the river perfectly. You guaranteed yourself two extra big bets (one from each) when you would have had to get two big bets from one player.
Screw them...you won all the money you could on the river. |

Yes, the previous poster was right. Just take pride that you read the "trying for overcalls" portion of Advanced Hold Em, that they didn't, and maybe sheepishly say you misread the board and didn't realize you had the nuts.

Good play. Don't worry what the losers thought.

Re: I thought it was a good play. What do you think?
Good play, but certainly don't defend it at the table - don't make them think too much about it because anything you say about going for overcalls or the guy being all in is going to make them think about you (even a little) differently and you don't want that.
